3 Things Being a #StyleGuru has Taught Me

Well, it’s that time again! CollegeFashionista is getting ready to accept new applicants for their 2016 summer style gurus!

I can hardly believe that this will be my 4th semester as an intern for College Fashionista! Boy, has the time flown, but more importantly… boy have I learned a lot!

When I started at CollegeFashionista, they were the first publication I wrote for other than the very site you’re on right now! It’s been a bit of journey since I started, but it has also been one of the most rewarding experiences.

I’d like to share with you guys the 3 major lessons I’ve learned since I started almost a year ago with CF. Maybe you’ll want to join the team!

It’s not nearly as awkward approaching people to take photos as you’d think. In fact, most people are flattered that you think their outfit looks cute. I like to think of it as a compliment to ask someone to photograph them!

Engagement is key when in an online community! It’s amazing how plugged in and encouraged you can feel when you engage with other style gurus! Whether it be in the StyleGuru Facebook page or #stylegurulove on Instagram, leave complimenting comments and like peoples content. Not only does this create a positive atmosphere, but it also encourages folks to do the same for you!

You get out of your work what you put into it. I can choose to whip up an article with old photos of a friend and post it hours before the deadline. Believe me, I’ve done it. And yet, I never feel particularly proud of those articles when they go up. Recently I’ve been working to look at this opportunity as a chance to get out there photograph some #RAD people, and put my all into every article. Each of us have the power to create our own unique content that we can be proud of, and I’m not going to take that for granted!

So do you love fashion, writing, and online communities filed with tons of #RAD Fashionistas? If so, definitely consider applyingtchelsea
